Where fun meets creativity

For some odd reason all these years I never ended up buying a wreath.  Every year I look for one, but I never like one enough to buy it. Perhaps that explains why I don’t have one.

This year I decided to make one.  As I was looking for inspiration, I saw this photo on Pinterest.   I loved the idea so much and decided to make a similar one for myself.  I went shopping and bought all the items I needed for this project.  It all cost me under $15.

This is the photo I saw on Pinterest. I couldn’t find the source to thank the person for such beautiful photo and for inspiring me to make my very first Christmas Wreath.

Sometimes “making it yourself” can cost more, but other times shopping smart can save you a lot too.  When making craft you can always mix and match material with different level of quality and cost.  For example, when I went shopping for the material for my wreath, I bought most of the items I knew I was going to use as a base from Dollar Store.  I choose better quality products for items I was going to use as main decoration for my wreath.

Another easy way to save cost is also to buy at the end of the season for  next year’s inspirations.

Things you will need for the Wreath

  • A Christmas garland
  • A picture frame (I bought the frame from dollar store too, I don’t like it so much I will buy a better one and replace it for next year)
  • Ornaments
  • Ribbons and additional decoration to your liking
  • Some ribbons or wires to tie the pieces together
  • Glue gun

I tried to arrange and tie the garland on once side of the frame to achieve the look I wanted. Then layer by layer I built and added all the other decorations.

I worked free hand and tried to balance a desirable look.  If this project inspires you to make something for yourself this year or next, just play around with the idea till you are happy with your design before you secure and glue it down.

Last year  towards end of the season I put my foot down and convinced  the family it is time to buy an artificial tree (my kids wants me to replace the word “convinced” with “totally forced”).  Even though, both my kids and my hubby did not approve of the idea, I end up winning the battle and bought us a very nice tree for 50% off.  The best purchase I have ever made! I love my tree this year.  The best “not fresh” tree ever.  I even took over decorating the tree this year. Such a mean mama!   I Can’t wait till after Christmas when everything goes on sale, so I can buy everything for my next year’s “big ideas” 🙂
